Wayne Rooney, who is not reknown for his vanity or good looks revealed this week that he had had a hair transplant. It seems that he celebrated the end of the soccer season by splashing out on the procedure to counteract his follicly challenged scalp, unveiling his bonce whilst holidaying at the Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados with his wife Colleen. As ever the boys at bookmakers Paddy Power are hot on the trail of trending news and are offering a book on which celebrity will be next to brave the surgeons knife.
Whether it was the football star or his altogether more fashion conscious wife who wanted the £30,000 procedure is unknown, but given his awkward history and the stories of extra marital affairs it may well have been a way of showing committment to wife and child Kai. The procedure is a lengthy one and whilst the pictures of Wayne certainly prove he no longer has a receeding hairline, reports indicate that this initial hair is likely to fall out before growing back fully in up to 18 months time. Most celebrities would hope that the period of re growth is quicker so that their vanity is undetected and the paparrazzi kept at bay.
Top on Paddy Power’s list of suspects is Westlife’s Kian Egan at 5/1. His hair has been noticeably thinning and as a boy band member it is obviously presumed that he would find a receeding hairline hard to market, especially now that there appears to be a viable alternative which could restore his golden locks. Wayne Rooney is only 25 and clearly recognized that he was in a downward spiral with his hair so might as well take action, but many of the A listers who have gone down this path have been older.
Elton John was of course the first celebrity to come out of the closet with his hair transplant but since then there have been many others. Mel Gibson’s diminishing hairline is now restored as is Kevin Costner’s and there have been unravelling reports that for some time John Travolta has had the less invasive ‘fill in’ procedure but could now be looking to have the full operation. Domestically James Nesbitt and Gordon Ramsay have both had the procedure opening the way for mainline acceptance. Interestingly Paddy Power include Jude Law and Matthew McConaughey on their list, although sites on the net claim that they have already had it done. Of all those on the list Prince Wiliam would seem to be a perfect candidate but at 40/1 Paddy Power have obviously decided that whilst he may well want to escape the family trend of baldness that his traditional family background mightprevent him from going down this path. Sting at 20/1 could be a good option, although the bet does require owning up to it and vain celebrities will probably want tokeep the whole thing under wraps, so to speak!
